Apparently I have had a thing for trains lately. But there is something really magical about them that I can't get over. I remember staying in my grandparents bed & breakfast in Mississippi and placing pennies on the tracks. In the middle of the night I'd wake to the sound of the trains passing through. In the morning I would race my brother down to the tracks to see if our pennies had been flattened into thin copper masterpieces. Then we would run back home and drink lemonade and eat these oatmeal cookies that my grandma and Aunt Virginia would make. My grandma would let me lick my finger and dip it in the lemonade mix. I don't know why I loved that so much. Aunt Virginia was the best. She would watch over the bed & breakfast and cook for the guests and keep everything in it's place. Life was really simple when we were there. But not simple at all. And I guess that's childhood naivety. And it's something that I miss very much. With age comes awareness. It's learning how to deal with the knowledge that's the hard part. xxx.
