My M.O. is paring girly items with edgy, tomboy, or avantgarde items. I think it's because I was raised in a family of artists where not only my outfits were about what looked good together it was about composition and balance. If you wore something super girly, wear it with a military jacket. If you were wearing something really dark and edgy, wear soft makeup or balance the look with a feminine accessory. My mother always instilled this in me and today I am so thankful for that. We used to always make fun of the word juxtaposition because it was (and still is) such a buzzword...BUT fashion is about balancing your look with opposing trends and styles. It brings everything together, especially when you're an edgy boho girl like me wearing a lacy ruffled dress.
